Russia has invaded Ukraine, posing 7.5 million children at risk of “direct harm, displacement, family separation, trauma, loss of family income, and prolonged interruption of their education.” This invasion has caused 4 million children to be displaced. These children leave behind everything: money, belongings, friends, and family. Entering foreign countries with nothing, these children are in desperate need of life-changing resources. They face an uncertain future. As an 8th grader fortunate enough to be around a safe environment in the U.S, I can only think for those other children who are less fortunate. Viewing Ukraine’s situation is disturbing. Watching Ukrainian children who live in inhumane conditions is genuinely upsetting and heartbreaking. I cannot stand my inaction against this crisis. I can only watch the horror these children go through, longing to aid them. Save the Children is a non-profit organization aiming to assist children through times of hardship. Currently, Save the Children needs funds to aid and assist displaced children in Ukraine. As Save the Children once put it, “Just because it’s not happening here, doesn’t mean it’s not happening.” Please increase publicity of our fund-raiser by sending it to friends or family! -Ritvik Gupta with JMS student council.
