In 2013, Ghaida started giving classes to displaced school-aged kids. She became the first founder of the school in the refugee camp in Northwest Syria. It all started under the trees.

Ghaida and her family lost their home in the bombings of 2011. Despite difficult conditions and the war, Ghaida keeps teaching classes to kids because that is what they need! Ghaida Hussein provides psychological support to both children and adults. She helped opening more schools in the region and wants to give the chance to education to every Syrian child.

The conversation with Ghaida made me think of the impact a single life can make. 

After our conversation, we stayed in contact. It felt like we became friends. I have realised how important it is for Ghaida and other women and children in Syria to have an outside support to push past the struggles of everyday financial, psycological and physical hardships.

Right now, too many children and young people in Syria have very limited opportunities for schools, universities and jobs. They need help of the international community, our help, to grow up and achieve their dreams. Together we can help Syrian children and women recover their community, rebuild their country, and build a better life!

We decided to run a fundraising campaign to support Save The Children's education projects in Syria in 2021.

We chose to fundraise for Save The Children because this organisation had supported Ghaida's project in the past, and even though we are not allowed to sponsor Ghaida's project specifically, we would love to see more projects like hers emerge. 

We believe that through this fundraiser we help Syrian girls, boys, and women get access to quality education. A quality education raises their chances to have a better, happier, and successful life. When women know that their kids are safe, healthy and happy, they are happy. Let's create more happiness in the world!
