I'm Henry Hawley, and I'm in Mr. Ray's third grade class at TMSE. I've wanted to start a business for a few years. I've thought about setting up a shop, a corporation, selling iced tea popsicles, a detective business, a school supply drive, and many others.
One day, I got the idea to have a race fundraiser because it's fun, it's good exercise, and it would do something good for the world. I knew I wanted to donate money to other children.
I heard my parents talking about the conflict in Ukraine, and I realized children there needed help. I don't agree with what Russia is doing; they should not target civilians. I thought about how scared I would be in their position. I wanted to provide clothes, shoes, food, shelter, and medicine. When I thought of how they had to leave their homes, I realized they needed a lot of things. The Race for Peace was something I could do to bring them hope.
Please join me on Saturday morning, April 23rd on the Riverwalk for a one mile fun run/walk. We will meet at the Bama Bell docks (near Hotel Indigo), run to the River Market, and run back to the docks. Registration begins at 8am, and the race will begin at 8:30am. Each participant will have to sign a waiver to participate.
We will donate all funds to the Ukraine Relief Fund at Save the Children. Thank you so much for your support!
